ABOUT US

September 2020 marked the opening of Linwood School, North Brunswick’s new fifth and sixth-grade upper elementary school. Linwood School offers a diverse, inclusive, and supportive learning environment to educate, inspire, and empower your child to develop, grow, and succeed as an individual.

Linwood School’s curriculum is aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and is the foundation for each student to build on the prior year’s learning and progress academically. Our content area classes include courses in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Life skill courses support our core curriculum and provide students the flexibility to explore Music, Art, Technology and Spanish. Linwood School’s Health and Physical Education curriculum offers strategies to enhance and support the physical, social, and mental development of our upper elementary students. Linwood School’s music department challenges students to immerse themselves in an intensive music program by offering band, chorus, and strings classes. Lastly, electives such as Advanced Web Development, Engineering Challenge, and Computational Thinking provide experiences for students to engage, interact and explore STEM and coding interests.

Both fifth and sixth-grade are supported by their respective House Centers which include an Assistant Principal, Instructional Dean, School Counselor, and House Center Secretary. Additional building supports include our Child Study Team, Nurses Office, Building Security, Supervisor of Math/Science, Supervisor of English Language Arts/Social Studies, Supervisor of Special Education, Supervisor of World Language/ESL, along with the District Supervisor of Nurses.

Linwood School’s Child Study Team consists of a multidisciplinary group of professionals. One of our CST members will be assigned as case manager for each child with an IEP. The entire team works collaboratively with each student, their family, and the school staff to ensure that the student is getting the support and services to help them to be successful. Our case managers are knowledgeable about school and community resources and are great point people in coordinating support and services. Linwood offers a range of supports and services to meet each child’s academic, social, and emotional needs. Our general education courses include In Class Resource (ICR) classes, where a subject area specialist and special education learning strategist collaboratively co-teach in a supportive, engaging environment. Additionally, we offer Resource replacement classes, which consist of a smaller group of students working with a Special Education teacher, using focused strategies to gain skills in specific subject areas. As our school is departmentalized, we are excited that students will get to change classes and work with a variety of teachers as they explore different subjects. Each group of teachers works collaboratively with the Case Manager to support the student and help them adjust to their new school setting.

While academic development is critical, Linwood School also recognizes the importance of character development. We incorporate the six pillars of character education, which are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. These pillars are incorporated into our school day in a variety of ways, such as in our morning announcements, in posters displaying the six pillars, quotations of character posted around the school, character education honor assemblies, and through caring projects within the school to help our community.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is a process for helping students to develop fundamental skills for life effectiveness. SEL teaches the students skills to handle relationships with others, and to work effectively and ethically. SEL is incorporated into Linwood School’s community with core messages displayed in the hallways, by recognizing students who are demonstrating SEL concepts, and by incorporating SEL lessons into the classroom.

Linwood School's PTO worked hard its first year to start off strong, despite the obstacles of having a mostly virtual school year. Our 2021-2022 PTO built on that success and came out even stronger. We are proud to have the fabulous 2022-2023 Linwood PTO who is always coming up with ways to support the school community. We strive for 100% family and staff participation! The PTO fundraisers help sponsor grade-level trips, programs, entertainment and various school functions for students, so please click on the PTO Link and become a member!

At Linwood School, we understand the importance of clubs for students and the school community. We use information we collect directly from students about their interests and needs to determine our club selection for the school year, so please always check our webpage for the latest updates to our club and activity offerings.

Linwood School’s staff and students always strive for excellence, exhibit excellence, and expect excellence!

Welcome to Linwood School.
